Vitamin D3 and Vitamin K2
Nutrition
These are two important vitamins that have different but complementary roles in the body.

Vitamin D3, also known as cholecalciferol, is essential for the absorption of calcium and phosphate in the gut. It regulates blood calcium levels and promotes bone and dental health.

The primary source of vitamin D3 is exposure to sunlight, but it can also be obtained from dietary sources such as fatty fish, egg yolks, and fortified foods.

Vitamin D3 deficiency can lead to conditions such as rickets in children and osteoporosis in adults.

Vitamin K2, specifically the forms MK-4 and MK-7, plays a crucial role in bone health and the cardiovascular system.

It activates proteins that help transport calcium in the body to the right locations, such as in bones and teeth, while preventing calcium from accumulating in soft tissues and arteries.

Dietary sources of vitamin K2 include fermented foods such as natto, cheese, and certain meats.

Cooperation between vitamin D3 and K2

The combination of vitamin D3 and vitamin K2 is often recommended because they work synergistically to support bone health and prevent the buildup of calcium in the arteries. Vitamin D helps absorb calcium and vitamin K2 ensures that this calcium is directed to the right places in the body.

The months with an 'r' in them are generally the months when the days are shorter and there is relatively little sunlight in the Netherlands. The risk of a vitamin D3 deficiency during that period is therefore more likely.

It is therefore advisable to consider taking Vitamin D3 in combination with Vitamin K2 during this period. This is sold via supplementation. The ideal dose of these vitamins may vary depending on your age, gender, and individual health needs. It is therefore advisable to discuss this with a doctor and/or expert.
